Govii Lha (in Sanskrit, Gopai Lha)

Gopai Lha is a female protector whom Mongolians have been relying on for generations. Gopai Lha bestows blessings for happiness, long life and the most favourable Dharma conditions throughout one’s life even from birth.

In the centre is Mo Lha, the Female Deity.

White in colour, with a peaceful and youthful appearance, she is holding a long life arrow decorated with a small mirror and a streamer of five colours in her right hand. The arrow symbolises the healing power of wisdom and the five coloured streamer represents the balance or the harmony of the five elements of the body. She is holding another mirror in her left hand representing her function as an oracle. She rides a deer while her four retinues deities in the four corners are riding horses.

The four retinues are :
Srog Lha or Life Deity located in one’s heart
Po Lha or Male Deity located beneath one’s right shoulder
Yul Lha or Regional Deity located on the top of one’s head
Da Lha or Enemy Deity located on the top of one’s right shoulder

The wrathful bodhisattva Vajrapani is at the top centre to indicate the Female Deity’s pledge to protect and assist Dharma practitioners.
