Chenrezig with Dolphins – Faith Stone
Chenrezig smiles as he floats over Kona bay with dolphins playing in the foreground and Hualalai mountain in the background. He holds a wish fulfilling jewel a lotus and a crystal mala.
“When sacred art is finished, my teacher said that it no longer belongs to the Buddha or Bodhisattva. The energy of the Buddha moves in. I like the idea of inviting the deity to move into Hawaii and Colorado and all the places I have visited and lived. Painting Buddhas and Bodhisattvas is a way of making them manifest. My passion is to make countless Buddhas manifest in the West.” ~ Faith Stone
Chenrezig represents loving-kindness and compassion. His mantra is: Om Mani Padme Hung. In the pantheon of enlightened beings, Chenrezig is known as the embodiment of the compassion of all the Buddhas, the Bodhisattva of compassion.
This is an original woodblock, not a digital reproduction, hand-rubbed onto mulberry paper. Faith painstakingly carved a large mokuhanga woodblock. Mokuhanga is the traditional Japanese wood carving and printing technique. It is a labor-intensive process with hand-carving and hand-rubbing the prints using sumi and watercolor inks.
