Manjushri with Humuhumunukunukuapua’a – Faith Stone
Manjushri is the Bodhisattva of wisdom and compassion. He holds a sword to cut through ignorance and a book of knowledge. With wisdom comes compassion. I have him in a Hawaiian setting with the Hawaii state fish, humuhumunukunukuapua’a, Hawaiian triggerfish.
This is a large mokuhanga woodblock. Mokuhanga is the traditional Japanese style of woodblock artwork. The blocks are printed onto Japanese Kozo or mulberry paper by hand rubbing with a bamboo baren. The inks used are sumi and watercolor inks. Mokuhanga is a labor-intensive old-school printmaking practice.
Artwork size: 22″x28″ mulberry paper (56×72 cm).
Titled, numbered and signed by the artist.
