Hand-stitched textile portrait based on a photograph by Diane Barker of two Tibetan girls returning from pilgrimage. A shy girl covers her face with a scarf and giggles as the camera snaps, while her bolder friend welcomes the contact.
Combining traditional Tibetan appliqué techniques with photo-printing and machine-quilting, Leslie Rinchen-Wongmo has created a complex contemporary portrait. A variety of fabrics, stones, beads and buttons combine to create highly textured hand-stitched figures. These figures come to life out of the background photograph, which is inkjet printed on quilted cotton and organza.
Size: 23″ x 36″ (58 x 90 cm).
