Avalokiteshvara (Art Print) – Flera Birmane

Avalokiteshvara — ‘Lord who sees in every direction’ — is a bodhisattva who embodies the compassion of all Buddhas. He is from the Lotus (Padma) family. According to Tibetan Buddhism’s pantheon of enlightened beings, Avalokiteshvara is the earthly manifestation of the self-arisen infinite Buddha, Amitabha. He guards this world in the interval between the historical Sakyamuni Buddha and the next Buddha of the Future Maitreya.

According to legend, Avalokiteshvara made a vow that he would not rest until he had liberated all beings in all realms of suffering.

Vajrasattva (Art Print) – Flera Birmane

Vajrasattva practices are common throughout Tibetan Buddhism and are used both to purify obscurations so that a Vajrayana student can progress skillfully through the grades of yogic practices and also to purify any broken samaya vows after initiation. As such, Vajrasattva practice is an essential element of Tibetan Buddhist practice.

In addition to personal practices, the Vajrasattva mantra is regarded as having the ability to purify karma, bring peace, and increase enlightened activity in general.

Vajrasattva Yabyum (Art Print) – Flera Birmane

The buddha of purification and also a yidam (meditational deity). Vajrasattva is also considered the essence of all of the peaceful Buddha Families. In this form, Vajrasattva has the role of a meditational deity and not that of a deity of purification – as is more commonly associated with Vajrasattva.

“You, Vajrasattva, have generated the holy mind of bodhicitta according to your pledge (samaya). Your holy mind is enriched with the simultaneous actions of releasing migrating beings from samsara.  Whatever happens in my life – happiness or suffering, good or bad – with a pleased and holy mind, never give up on me but please guide me. Please stabilize all happiness – including the happiness of the upper realms – inspire me to pure actions, and actualize all sublime and common realizations within my being.  Please make the glory of the five wisdoms abide in my heart.”
